Dr. Mirela Savcic
Dr. Mirela Savcic, born and raised in Croatia, embarked on a journey of service and compassion. After completing the School of medicine at the University of Belgrade, she ventured to Chicago, USA, where she completed her internal medicine residency at Mercy Hospital. Over sixteen years, she not only provided exceptional patient care but also honed her teaching skills as a dedicated attending physician.
In parallel, Mirela embraced the joys of family life, marrying and becoming a devoted mother of two children. Her passion for education and love for working with children led her to volunteer as a teacher at the Sunday school of Serbian language at Holy Resurrection Cathedral. For eleven years, she devoted her time and energy to nurturing young minds, eventually serving as school principal for the last six years, spearheading various activities and initiatives to enrich the educational experience of the children. Inspired by her interactions with children, Mirela also became one of the founders of the Drama, Dancing, and Orchestra sections, fostering their love for the arts and creativity.
Driven by a desire to improve community health and support the Serbian American population, Mirela played an important role in enhancing the Serbian American Medical and Dental Association (SAMDS), ultimately assuming the role of vice president in 2022. Through SAMDS, she worked tirelessly to advance education and healthcare initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of the community.
Recognizing the growing needs of the Serbian population in Chicago, Mirela co-founded KLAS in August of 2023, a testament to her commitment to addressing health, social, and educational challenges. Her leadership and dedication continue to make a profound impact on the lives of those she serves, embodying the spirit of compassion and service.
